Have you ever felt so depressed that you couldn’t even speak? Have you ever wondered what the Bible teaches about depression or sadness? The Psalms of Lament help us to understand how to grapple with such emotions. This booklet is a study of eight Psalms of Lament, characterized by a passionate expression of grief or profound sorrow.

Why would David write, “I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears” or “How long, O Lord"? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” Why would Asaph write that he was so troubled, he couldn’t even speak?

These psalms of lament are rich in learning as they teach us to pour out our hearts to God when we feel overwhelmed by trying situations. Each section covers one psalm and then offers a “reflection” designed to help readers reflect on the psalm on a personal level.
